World Cup Group B

Argentina, Greece, Nigeria, South Korea.
Here we go.  I am watching this group a day late because I have been preparing for my World Cup England vs. USA party.   I can't believe that I haven't been on top of watching this tournament as it progresses, but a lady has to do what a lady has to do to get ready for her English tea party vs. American Grilling BBQ for the game on 6/12.

Once again, I owe no powerful loyalties to any of these teams.  I know a few of the players that are involved, but they are not close to my heart.

Argentina
Argentina is one of the big names in soccer.  This country provided one of the most notable players in the world's history, Diego Maradona.  Well, I am sure that Maradona would be back on the pitch parading his skills around and proclaiming himself the hero for Argentina if he were fit.  I am sure his heroism will be noted, or shouted into press microphones if Argentina does well. Oh yes Maradona, I can already hear it.  Put that hand down already.  Giants are often formed in their own mind.  Oftentimes correctly, but no less annoyingly.  Sometimes humility will get you far: Sir Bobby Charlton, Pele, Maldini, etc.  Well that is something Maradona will never accused of having.  I am not looking forward to having to hear this guy react to games, predict Argentina's progress.  I do not want to hear it.  I have heard enough of this guy talking about himself to last me a lifetime of Maradona.

On the other hand, they also notably have FIFA's World Player of the Year for 2010, Lionel Messi.  That is exciting.

Players to Watch:
Lionel Messi-see above
Carlos Tevez

Greece
This team surprised its home nation in 2004 by winning Euro 2004.  Their first win in a major tournament.  I wouldn't bet on this team though.  I do not know them.

Nigeria
Another African team I hope does well.  I see names I recognize from the BPL: Martins, Yobo, and Kanu, and Utaka.  I know nothing of their history in the WC.  This is a toss-up team for me.

South Korea
Once again I know little about this team.  They co-hosted the World Cup in 2002.   They seem to make it to the World Cup often.  In a horrible move on their part in my mind, they were responsible for knocking out my beloved Spain in 2002.

I only know one player, Ji-Sung Park.  Ji-Sung Park has played for Manchester United ever since I became interested in soccer. Other than that, I know nothing.  My only suggestion is watch Ji-Sung Park.  He is a very decent player.

Predictions:
1.  Argentina
2.  Nigeria

Postgame
Greece vs. Korea Republic (AKA South Korea)

Argentina vs. Nigeria
