I love Spain. LOVE Spain. And, I also like Portugal. These two teams are my top two choices. My heart, blood, and nerves have been with them throughout qualification, round of 32, and now...I am conflicted. Not much though.
ESPANA
Spain was never a question to make it to the World Cup. They have only lost 2 games in I don't even know how many games played. They lost to the US at the Confederations Cup last year in South Africa. A shock no doubt. They also lost their first WC 2010 game vs. the Swiss. They have made me quite nervous throughout this tournament, but I am still hopeful. Villa is on fire. Their benches are even stacked. I am hoping that they will let their little lights shine today.
PORTUGAL
The World Cup Qualification for these guys was quite heart-wrenching and nerve-wracking. They nearly didn't make it. It was down to a playoff to see if they would qualify, and after that North Korea spanking of 7 goals, I am glad they did. My god, they even tied with Brazil. I know Cristiano Ronaldo is on that team. I know. But I love Simao. They are a fun team. They entertain me. Run wenches run, right? This is the 3rd ranked nation in the world. Spain is number 2. And you'll never guess who is number 1=Brazil. This will be even more exciting for me than the US vs. England game. Can Portugal leapfrog Spain?
I have no idea what the mentality for either team will be. Spain hasn't looked that great. But, Spain is Spain. Portugal is probably on a high from the 7 goals and tie with Brazil. This is going to be a close one.
Dark side: One of my teams goes home. It better not be Spain.
Bright side: One of my teams is guaranteed to go onto quarterfinals, and it is against either Paraguay or Japan (Que White Stripes Seven Nation Army Song...) which means Semifinals most likely. And if Portugal goes home, I don't have to see Cristiano prancing about.
