Group D honestly didn't impress me much when I considered the threat that they would make once they got out of the group stage. France, as I have said, has been an embarrassment to their country with players' egos becoming more important than the country they represented in 2010. England continues to underwhelm. Sweden has Imbrahimovic. Enough said.
The Ukraine hasn't played a lot of games because they automatically qualify as the co-host for the tournament. Furthermore, the player with the most bang, is 35 years old. He impressed in the 2006 World Cup, and was promptly scooped up by Chelsea for the following season to primarily sit the bench. Poor Schevchenko. That alone puts me behind this guy to shine.
So today, when the oldest striker in the tournament scored twice in the first Euro championship he played, I was ecstatic. It was a perfect example of why I love international tournaments. The entire nation behind 11 men. An underdog nation celebrating an unlikely win. Take that Chelsea. Take that Ibrahimovic. I hope these guys advance. I hope they are in the top spot.
