Chile, Honduras, Spain, and Switzerland
Espana, this is my team. This is the group I have been waiting for. This is my moment. I can't wait for it to get underway. I love Spain. I grew in love with the sport because of this team. If I had to pick one team I am wholly devoted to without a question it would be Spain. I would root on Spain over Manchester United, Juventus, and Barcelona. Every single person on this team is my favorite. Their plays are beautiful. They work as a team.
I love these guys:
Fernando Torres is my favorite player. He was the first professional footballer that made an impact on me. It was during a game against Tunisia in the 2006 World Cup. Here is a link to that particular goal. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4aGF8_r1vcc That was the moment I fell in love with the sport. It didn't reek of machismo. It was soaked with joy. It showed me the comradery that teams should have, that can also unite a nation. Ever since then I tried to follow his career. He played for Atletico Madrid, and in the summer of '07, there were rumors he would transfer to the Premier League. I was so excited! His name was thrown around with many different clubs. To my massive disappointment, he landed at Liverpool. In the summer of 2010, once again his name is being thrown around for a transfer. I hope, I pray he never ends up at Chelsea. ABC Anywhere But Chelsea.
David Villa is Torres's attacking partner. The experts suggest it is the strongest pair to create goals, and I can see why. I do not get to see David Villa throughout the year; he plays in La Liga in Spain. Unfortunately ESPN nor Fox Soccer Channel have decided that it would not be a worthy idea to play their games. I do get to see him play for his country now and then. One thing I have learned is that David Villa and whole team works together to make some beautiful goals.
Sergio Ramos is a defender with flair. Although many have been dogging him lately, he is capable of quite a lot. He is dangerous in the air and can score off headers, as well as with his feet. He can magic some near impossible saves. He doesn't seem to be on the list of ones to watch, but I know I will be keeping at least one eye on this guy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iqpBGBxN92k&feature=related
Some Other Major Notables: AKA Other Works of Brilliance
Iniesta-the Paul Scholes of Spain.
Xavi
Casillas
Pique
Alonso
Fabregas
David Silva
Even Pepe Reina the backup goalie is amazing and plays for a top level team.
Honduras, Chile, and Switzerland, I don't really notice you too much really. I do not see any threat to Spain here. Spain made it to the World Cup winning every game. As any American can frustratingly tell you, soccer has too many draws. Not when Spain is playing. They also have the world record for the most wins in a row. You'll never believe who stopped that winning streak: USA. La Furia Roja, I heart you. I heart you a lot.
